Deanne Taylor

Legal Director

Deanne Taylor is the Head of Wills and Probate in the Private Client Department at Smalleys, bringing a wealth of expertise and a deep understanding of private client law to her role. With years of experience, starting with Martin Smalley & Co as a Trainee in 1991, qualifying in 1993 and having been made Partner in 1996, Deanne’s journey in law began in the Family Department, where she served as head before making a significant career shift in 2000 to specialise in Wills and Probate. This transition, driven by necessity, allowed her to develop a strong foundation in her current specialty, where she now excels in providing clear and comprehensible legal guidance to her clients.

Deanne’s primary focus is on making the law accessible and understandable. Clients often express relief, saying they have “finally found a Solicitor they can understand.” She takes great pride in ensuring that her clients’ experiences are as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, even when dealing with the complex and sensitive issues of wills and probate.

In addition to her specialised role, Deanne provides support to her entire team in the Private Client Department and the broader firm. Known for her approachable and down-to-earth demeanour, she ensures that clients feel comfortable and not intimidated, no matter the complexity of their legal concerns. Her diverse background, which includes six years in nursing and various roles in factories and cafes, enables her to connect with clients on a personal level, further strengthening the trust they place in her.
Deanne’s friendly and relatable approach, coupled with her vast experience, makes her a preferred choice for clients seeking legal advice in her areas of expertise. She is deeply committed to ensuring that every client feels heard and understood, and her practical, no-nonsense approach has been key to building long-lasting relationships with those she serves.

Throughout her career, Deanne has achieved significant milestones, including successfully running a law firm for 30 years. She has also frequently spoken at events, such as the Elders Forum in the Council House Ballroom, where she has addressed large audiences on topics related to her area of expertise. Although she has scaled back on public speaking, Deanne continues to share her knowledge, including an upcoming talk at a village for the elderly in Clifton.

Deanne is a member of the Private Client Law Society and Lifetime Lawyers (formerly known as Solicitors for the Elderly), reflecting her commitment to her field. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys watching ice hockey, walking, and practicing Pilates. Although she once enjoyed making jewellery, her busy schedule now limits her time for this creative hobby.

Deanne Taylor embodies the qualities of an experienced and approachable legal professional. Her dedication to simplifying the law for her clients, combined with her extensive background and practical approach, makes her a cornerstone of the Private Client Department at Smalleys.

Ive dealt with Smalley's quite a few times now, namely a very polite and sociable lady who I think is Dione. An absolute diamond, very professional, very knowledgeable and a very pleasant person I must say . Should the occasion ever arise again I would most definitely use the services of Smalley's solicitors.

I can’t thank Louise Mangham, France’s Matthew’s enough. They’ve been absolutely amazing professional friendly and extremely helpful. Being a first time buyer and having no clue they guided me firm start to finish with ease and comfort. I’ve heard horror stories and it seems to be such a stressful process to go through. These guys made it effortless for me with no stress at all. Being busy all the time these ladies stayed professional and very patient throughout. I would highly recommend and I will 100% be using your services again in the future. Keep up the great work guys and thanks again

I was dreading dealing with my mum’s probate application, and then I met Deanne and Lynne. They were amazing. Nothing too much trouble and took the time to explain the whole process. I cannot thank them enough, the empathy and kindness shown towards me throughout made a difficult situation easy to go through. I was given a price for the works and even though there were extra calls the final price did not change. I would recommend Smalleys to anyone without any hesitation, they are so easy to talk to, you feel as if you are having a conversation with a friend. Thank you both, you did my mum proud and got me through it. Lorraine
